This year, poison prevention week was March 20 - 26, 2011. A few brothers went to a local school to help students identify commonly ingested harmful substances. Students were engaged in a guessing game to determine if a substance was safe - often a candy - or if the substance is a poison.
The students were enthusiastic and energetic. Our brothers found pictures of poisonous substances that looked like nerds, licorice candy, tic-tacs, mints, red hots, gummy bears, and sweet tarts, to name a few.
One important lesson we hope these students were able to take home with them is the fact that if they are not 100% sure what something is...don't eat it. We also hope these students will remember Mr. Yuk from this educational event and will not ingest anything with his picture on the front.
If you are not aware, the Mr. Yuk is a cartoon that was created by a children's hospital to help kids identify poisonous substances.
